The term “growth mindset” comes from the ground-breaking work of Carol Dweck. Her work will help generations to come up with grace. She spent decades to find why people succeed (or don’t) and what we can do to foster success. She identified that everyone holds ideas about their own potential. Her theory of the two mindsets and the difference they make in outcomes is incredibly powerful.
According to Carol “In a growth mindset, people believe that they can develop their abilities through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” ( Carol Dweck, 2015) is a way of success.
The growth mindset allows people to value what they’re doing regardless of the outcome. As a result, they stretch themselves and stick to it, even when it’s hard.
Having a growth mindset means you believe in yourself and in your ability to change, learn and develop any skill. In the Growth Mindset, errors are seen as the natural part of learning, and processing and correcting them is the next step.
Having a growth mindset (the belief that you are in control of your own ability, and can learn and improve) is the key to success.
Individuals who believe their talents can be developed (through hard work, good strategies, and input from others) have a growth mindset. They tend to achieve more than those with a more fixed mindset (those who believe their talents are innate gifts). This is because they worry less about looking smart and they put more energy into learning.
